FIRE PREVENTION

1) Make sure your smoke detectors are in working order and they have working batteries!

2) Make sure that your household has a fire escape plan and that everyone in the family knows about it. It should include a meeting spot at least 50ft from the house.

3) NEVER go back into your house if it is on fire in order to retrieve something.

4) If you believe to be in a building that is on fire, feel closed doors for warmth before opening them.

5) If you ever do catch on fire, STOP, DROP, and ROLL!

6) Make sure that fires are always watched, whether it be cooking or just having a nice evening camp fire.

7) Be sure that matches, cigarettes, and anything that is burning is out before leaving it unsupervised or before throwing it away.

8) If you are in a fire or believe there is one that can’t be handled on your own call 911 as soon as possible!

9) Make sure that cottage roads are cleared and accessible for fire trucks and docks.

10) Cottages, houses and camps on land or on an island should be properly labeled with name and current 911 addresses.

If you have any questions, contact your local fire department!
